Stop 02 · The Firm

A small firm with big ideals.

Referral-built, institution-ready, and never too big for a family.

Justice for all, at a size you can reach.

Rahdert & Mortimer has practiced in downtown St. Petersburg since the 1970s. We have the experience to represent large institutions, and we have never believed that experience should be reserved for them. If an individual or a family needs help, we make room.

Almost none of our work comes from advertising. It comes from people we have already represented, and from other lawyers and judges who send us their own matters and those of the people they care about. That kind of referral is earned slowly, one file at a time.

The practice is deliberately small. You will know your lawyer, your lawyer will know your matter, and the advice you get will be practical: what it costs, what it risks, and how to reach the finish line without creating the next dispute along the way.

“When other lawyers and judges need legal help, they turn to us.”

How we work

  1. You get your lawyer’s cell number.

Not a call center and not a message queue. If something changes in your matter, you can reach the person handling it, and they will call you back.

  2. We work toward the finish line.

A transaction is only worth something once it closes. We look for the problems that kill deals or start lawsuits after closing, and we solve them early instead of adding new ones.

  3. An ounce of prevention.

A well-drafted contract or estate plan costs far less than the litigation it prevents. We would rather help you avoid a courtroom than meet you in one, and we are ready for the courtroom when it can’t be avoided.

The Alexander Building

535 Central Avenue · Built 1919 · National Register of Historic Places, 1984

The building began as the Alexander Hotel, a four-story Classical Revival block of buff brick and cast stone designed by the architect Neel Reid. Its balconies and arched windows have looked out over Central Avenue for more than a century, and in 1984 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The firm restored the building and made it home. The work was not a renovation of convenience: it was a decision to stay downtown, to keep an old landmark useful, and to practice somewhere our clients could find for decades to come.

Today the Alexander is an office building two blocks from the downtown St. Petersburg courthouse. For us it stands for the same things we try to offer clients: permanence, care for the details, and a commitment to the city we work in.
